Fremantle’s West End is an area rich in history and heritage. Dating from the earliest days of the colony, today it forms a valuable collection of some of the State’s finest heritage buildings.

View up High Street showing historic TramIn 2014, the City of Fremantle nominated the West End Heritage Area to the Heritage Council to be considered for entry in the State Register of Heritage Places.

Following a heritage assessment of the West End undertaken by the State Heritage Office and subsequent stakeholder engagement, the then Minister for Heritage, Albert Jacob, approved the interim entry of West End, Fremantle in the State Register on
18 November 2016.

The permanent registration of West End will be considered in 2017.
